The Ngozi Design Group, LLC is the parent company of the The Ngozi Design Collective, Ngozi Custom Studio and Talking Drum Marketing. Andrea and Leon Carter are owner / partners having established the company in 2009.

The Ngozi Design Collective is a group of inspired local, national and international designers and artists who showcase and sell pieces from their collections of hand created clothing, jewelry, fine art, sculptures, personal care therapies, books, cards, photography, music and more. Ngozi and members of the Collective will be back at a new location to be announced soon!

The Custom Studio offers custom clothing, tailoring and alterations as well as custom jewelry and accessories under the company brand label. With over 40 years of sewing, tailoring and production experience we assist with design and fabric selection and we also service liturgical, theatre, home furnishings and special performance needs. Talking Drum Marketing is “Getting The Word Out for Small Business”  and handles social media, print/internet advertising, poster/catalog graphics, email promotions, light website content and maintenance and signage for micro businesses needs. We also share information to our database and design brochures, business cards in smaller batches to address lower minimum order quantity concerns.

We are committed to engaging in opportunities that allow us to expand our supply chains within our local and global communities and more fully realize fair trade enterprise.

Highlights of patronage and partnership that helped to make the Ngozi Collective more than a boutique!

For the last four years, with the help of our patrons and partners, we have been able to:

  • Host over 50 artists and designers, local, national and international, in store showcasing and selling their work and featured 4 to 5 times a year each in our weekly eblasts and social media. Over 90 more have showcased and sold their work in our store. (ages 6 - 80) Professional and self taught. Media signage and other marketing support provided at no cost. 

  • Offer free eblast announcements for non member entrepreneurs and community events under our Friends of Ngozi banner

  • Mentor interns, students and each other to provide a safe learning space and retail experience and foster confidence building and selling opportunities. One long term intern (NC State intern with Masters Degree in Textiles) and  four additional interns from NC Works / NextGen

  • Showcase commissioned portraits of Black excellence all year by artists Greg Paige and Warren Goodson.

  • Support non-profit creatives as they carry on their work in our community - Bump the Triangle, Village of Wisdom, The Beautiful Project, Ten Eight Ten Productions, I Am My Sista’s! Foundation, Our Children's Place and Cinderella’s Closet.

  • Donate food collected from our Swap to Feed clothing for food program.

  • Introduce a visual arts layaway program to make it easier for buyers to purchase high-quality original art 

  • Create the Ngozi Book Nook featuring 7 local authors and children's books and offer many book selections at no charge

  • Provide free consultations, fabric sourcing and support four independent seamstresses who provide stock, custom clothing, alterations and class instruction.

  • Celebrate, participate in and promote community events and businesses like Pillar No Pressure networking event, Nashona's new store opening in Goldsboro, NC, Durham Business and Professional Chain panels, UNC film Festival community screenings, panel discussions, new business launch of Rhythm Wigs and voter registration special events, to name a few.

  • Provide courtesy drop off space for Art of Cool's Hospitality Drive

  • Drop off location for Hurricane Florence relief and other clothing collection efforts

  • Hold numerous non-member trunk shows and artist receptions, yoga classes, sewing classes, food tastings, backdrops for photo and film shoots, book readings/signings, free designer weekly window displays, free social media announcements, and business card exchange.

  • Host a robust global consignment program (community opportunities to sell unique personal clothing) and participate in shop local / shop small raffle with more than 25 winners thanks to our generous members 

  • Style so many of you for Black History month celebrations and the Black Panther movie!

  • Red Silk fabrics - Launch the first in store shop of designer fabrics featuring a designer lounge and membership program (now a Pamela Bond Designs studio at Golden Belt Warehouse Artist Studios)

  • Kenya Collection (Kenya Fair Traders) - Launched the second in-store shop in 2018 by Sophie Kioko

  • Host annual Culture Rush and Clean Sweep events
